India scraped through and won. Dhoni was awfully slow again batting at the end. This time he batted at #6. I do not think he should bat any lower than #5. He could still be a useful bat but I do not think he belongs at the #6 and #7 slots. We should try Yusuf once again there especially we do not have Shewag up the order. Or one of the Pandya's. But, I do not think they are as good international bats as Yusuf. They are young though and I do not know how much they can improve.

Will Dhoni be able to deliver the final punch?

Dhoni, once the great finisher, now the great spoiler!

No he doesn't deliver the final punch. It was Dwayne Bravo who out-thought him, and for once Dhoni wasn't thinking straight enough. He needed to get a single to tie the match, two to win it off the last ball; so the thing to be avoided was a catch or lofted shot. All he needed to do was hit the ball into the ground off that last ball and sprint. If it went into a gap, it would be two and victory, if it was just a single it would be a tie. Instead he managed to scoop a catch for the second time in the over to third man. Of course, he could have made it a lot easier with a boundary earlier in the over, given that just 8 runs were needed off the last over.

It is not for once, and hasn't been for a long time.

True, he has failed more often than not in the crunch in the past year or two. By creating unnecessary drama, he makes it worse. Eight runs should have been scored within the first four balls of the final over.

Dhoni should not bat at finisher positions anymore. He should be at #4. Drop Rahane and bring in Rahul there. Bring in a big hitter like Pandya & Pandya at #5, #6.

The team atmosphere & chemistry changes drastically as the NEW kaptan joins them. I vouch for a single captain for all the three formats. If Kohli was the boss, I don't think we'll lose the match.
AND WITH THIS, WE ARE BACK TO OUR WEAKNESS, THE GREAT(???) GAME OF CRICKET, THE KILLER OF OTHER SPORTS.

Huh? We lose a match, and you are so drawn back to this game? Why?

Jay, I'm only echoing our own discussions in the Rio thread, why our children are not attracted to Olympic sports. It is due to Gulley Cricket, and their hero is not Bindra, Sushil but Tendulkar, Dhoni, Kohli. That's why I called it KILLER, not because we lost yesterday's match.

You meant "they" by "we" in other words. Got it. You're right though!

Children are not attracted to Olympic sports anywhere in the world and their heroes are players in major team sports (Messi, Ronaldo, LeBron, Brady) or the top individual sports (Federer, Nadal, Woods, Spieth). Cricket is not unusual in that regard.

Olympic medals are always a product of a good attitude to physical activities (we Indians are one of the laziest and unhealthy nations in the world) and a good underlying infrastructure.
