Like everyone else, I did not call it. But, Yusuf Pathan should have been in the WC team --- maybe instead of Yuvraj. Brutal hitting ... after he got a reprieve the first ball.

Kohli's form and home conditions should have meant that we would have won the WC if we had a better batsman than Dhawan or Rahane in the xi. Spinner included or not.

The man in form was Manish Pandey. Leaving him out was ludicrous -- and he instead caught chicken pox while sitting around. Yusuf Pathan has regained form this IPL season, but hadn't enough before the T20 World Cup to warrant selection.
One leggie and one good batsman would have made all the difference.

The Pandya brothers have emerged out of nowhere -- younger brother Hardik last year and elder one Krunal this year -- as pure IPL finds. Krunal's clean hitting against spin was remarkable yesterday. He is 25, and had no cricket career to speak of, so I just wonder how the IPL scouts pick up such players while first class and List A selectors seem to have missed them.

When these huge hitters suddenly emerged in the MLB, it turned out that the answer was spinach. I have no information to cast any aspersions on anyone specific. However, I hope IPL and cricket has a stringent PED testing policy.

I used to like the tests at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, I hate the IPL matches there because they make the field rather small.

Yes, Pathan and Krunal have really shone with the bat. And, Dhoni was looking for hard hitters. That is why they got Hardik. But, Krunal seems to be a better bat. I would not mind trying KL Rahul to partner with one of Dhawan/Rohit in T20s in the future.

Rahul, Rohit, Kohli, Dhoni, Yusuf, Krunal,Raina/Yuvraj/Jadeja, Bhuvi/Dhawal, Mishra, Nehra, Bumrah

may have been the team if the IPL was before the World T20.

It is quite possible that the IPL scouts are more professional with their jobs depending upon finding talent whereas the FC and LIst-A selectors are largely people who have "wasta" (clout).

Virat Kohli paid relatively little attention to the IPL -- or at least didn't reserve his best for it -- before this year. But he has been on an absolute tear this year -- with four centuries now. He has been playing incredible cricket for the past year, but the past 3 months have been stratospheric.

Yesterday he made 113 off 50 balls in a 15-over match in which his side made 211, and KXIP only managed 120 in response.

Kohli has now made 919 runs (avg 91.9) in this year's IPL. Nobody had previously crossed 750. He has at least two more matches left to play, so he should be able to cross 1000 runs. Incredible!

So, at the end of the regular season of 14 games, here are the top Indian players.

Batting (by avg.): Kohli, Yusuf Pathan, KL Rahul, S Dhawan, RG Sharma, AR Rahane, MS Dhoni

So, Rahul emerges and Pathan gets his form back. Rahane grows. Dhawan finds his form ...

Sunrisers eliminate KKR and will play Gujarat Lions for a place in the final. Henriques was adjudged Man of the Match, although for me it clearly was Yuvraj -- who top scored with 44 quick runs and then ran out Munro brilliantly to turn the tide of the KKR innings.

Tragic end to the IPL for Virat, as he played on to an innocuous delivery after making a fine 54, and then the RCB batting failed to capitalize on the great platform laid by Gayle and Kohli.

So Kohli fell 27 runs short of making 1000 runs for the season. And RCB have yet to win an IPL crown. ABD was the big disappointment in the final, but the lower order was disgraceful (partly because they had to bat so little in the tournament). Why is Stuart Binny in the XI?

I am glad SRH won. I hate Chinnaswamy Stadium. I think Chris Jordan and ABD's failure with the bat did Bangalore in.

So, after the IPL ends, this season's batting leaders are:

By average: Kohli, Y Pathan, Rohit, Rahul, Rahane, Dhoni, K Pandya

I hope Rahul and K Pandya get some games. Maybe Krunal in the A-team limited overs.

With respect to bowling:

By average (qual: 7 wickets): YS Chahal, S Aravind, DS Kulkarni, AB Dinda, B Kumar, Nehra

Somehow the Indian spinners did not do that well. We have a left-hander in Aravind, who should be given some A-team or limited overs matches. Maybe Dinda too, though, he is perhaps only good for T20s. Nehra is injured and old. Chahal should get some chances in Zimbabwe.

Axar Patel was the top left-arm spinner; Jadeja was not that great. Ashwin was the top offie.

Surprising names in the unsold list, including Irfan Pathan, Ross Taylor, Jonny Bairstow, Prithwi Shaw and Unmukt Chand. Short-termism seems rampant among IPL managements.
