T5 at -13 after 15. On the all important very birdiable 16th.

He had an eagle chance again at the 16th but only a birdie so -14 now. T4. Rose will get a birdie so he will go to -15.

Over to the very hard 17 and 18 now.

Very good shot on the 17th but he goes into the annoying rough on the sides; this will be a very hard par to make now. Fingers crossed, we cannot have him dropping a hole here.

edit
what a save on the 17th; stays at -14.

T4 or 5 after the 17th hole? My feed had him T3 (with Justin Rose and Branden Grace) after he finished his 16th hole...

T4 after 17th. Rose and Grace are on the 17th now.

Grace with a fantastic approach on the 17th so he will likely make a birdie which will push Anirban back to 5th.

Thanks for the updates. Sad that he ended with a bogey. My feed had him T3 after he finished the 17th -- but Grace and Rose were still on the 15th.

If he does indeed finish T5, that will still be an amazing finish in a Major -- easily the very best performance by an Indian at a golf major.

Agreed.

I have seen enough of Anirban and he will be in contention again especially on these American courses. I loved Jeev but his game was always too wonky to be consistent in the US.

This is still a fantastic performance, T5 is the best finish by an Indian (beating Jeev's T9)

Only four players still left on the course. Anirban is assured of a T5 finish. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

So, just one other player is tied with Anirban at T5 at the end of the tournament. What an incredible performance!! Rory McIlroy was 17th, Phil Mickelson was further back, and Tiger Woods didn't make the cut. Jordan Spieth -- the new golfing tiger -- finished second, three shots behind the winner Jason Day. But Anirban has much to be proud of! This was a breakthrough performance for Indian golf.

From what I can tell so far, Indian newspapers have completely missed the biggest golfing story in India's golf history! No mention of Anirban in the websites of the ToI and Indian Express. Incredible!! (and lots of useless stories about the rankings of the Indian cricketers :-( )

Congratulations Anirban, soon we will be celebrating our first major winner if he keeps going like this.

Going in to the final round, this was his best shot realistically (to be in top 5) and he did not disappoint.. A well earned 367,000USD in prize money.. Phew

This is the best story in Indian sport in a very long time.

When was the last time an Indian placed 5th in a globally played individual sport? Vijay's QF appearances in the 80s comes to mind.

@PKB, you seem unaware of Jason Day's talents. He led after 54 holes in all of the last 3 majors but choked for various reasons. Him, Rory and Spieth are all outstanding golfers and will end up with 5+ majors each. Anirban will be in contention again for sure.

I just registered for tickets for next year's PGA championships.

Fantastic performance by Anirban. I'm not a golfer & generally don't watch the sport, but today I made sure to keep track. This is excellent & I really hope he can build on it. It is such a mental game - this performance has to do wonders for his confidence.

I'm at least vaguely aware of the fact that Jason Day had been in contention in all the majors, but didn't realize he had led going into the final round of all three majors this year. He has had an outstanding August for sure! And he won by a massive margin here. He seems to be partly Asian too -- his mother is Filipina (and grandmother died because of Typhoon Haiyan last year).
Spieth and Day are going to give Rory a run for his money -- if they haven't already replaced him as the new golf phenoms. It is nice to think that Anirban could be in contention just behind this group! His driving is a spectacular advantage, it seems. I wonder if Tiger will ever be a contender again.
