2009 European Tour: Season Ending "Race to Dubai"

Postby Prem » Mon Oct 27, 2008 6:58 pm

As soon as we finish 2008 EPGA Tour this week, the 2009 Tour kicks off next week with the inaugural event - The HSBC Champions event in China.

Jeev & SSPC are slated to play after winning tournaments in 2008.
Arjun Atwal is also eligible but he needs to choose between the NW Tour Chamionships and this event as both are played at the same time.

I read somewhere that Arjun plans on playing in the HSBC champions event and will be in Asia for the next few weeks.

Arjun has probably decided to play the NW Tour Championships and skip the lucrative HSBC Champions in a bid to improve his ranking in NW Tour....which will give him chance to play more events on the PGA Tour next year.

So we will have Jeev and SSPC in the first event of the year....SSPC was injured when he played a Delhi event 3 weeks back. Not sure how fit he is... Jeev is in decent form and should try and make a move for the Asian Order of Merit title by picking up some good money here.

Jeev started with bogey but scored immediate birdie on 2nd hole ... Then until 12 holes he was on PAR ... Scored back to back birdies on 13th and 14th holes ... But managed bogey on 16th ... In end finished with birdie on 18th to scored 2 under for the day and currently 5 strokes behind leader Henrik Stenson.

Other hand SSP started with birdie but managed only bogey on 2nd hole ... His back 9 was disastrous, where he scored birdie on 14th hole but managed bogeys on 10th, 13th and 17th holes ... Also scored a double bogey on 15th hole.

At HSBC Champions, Shanghai, China - First Round

T24 Jeev Milkha Singh 70 -2
T65 S S P Chowrasia 76 +4

Except Rahil and to some extent Amandeep, very ordinary performance by Indians in the first round. Jeev said before the tournament that he is feeling tired. That may explain his poor start. But as he starts playing, he forgets his tiredness. And in second round he is back in his elements As he played a tremendous round of 7 under with one hole to go. :notworthy: He just made his first bogey on his 17th hole and 8th hole of the field. This performance brings him currently in top 10. As Jeev is playing morning session, therefore still a lot of golf remains, and final position will be known many hours later.

Update: Jeev pars his last hole to finish 2nd round at 65 and 7 under and -6 for the tournament. Along with him his playing partner Oliver WILSON also finishes his round and takes a clubhouse lead of -8, just 2 strokes ahead of Jeev. The 3rd player in Jeev's group is Jimenez - the defending champion, who finshed 2 rounds at EVEN par. Go Jeev! Take advantage of your good form and win once again!

Good play from Indians! Jyoti and Jeev played a round of 4 under par 66 while Ghei made 3 under 67 (a bogey on last hole) in the penultimate round. All three improved their positions. Ghei(-3) moved to T42 from T61, while Jyoti(-5) moved to T25 from T46. Jeev also moved up from T10 to T4. However, yesterday he was 2 behind leader, today he is 3 behind leader Oliver WILSON. Interestingly, 8 of 9 players who were ahead of Jeev after 2nd round, are now behind. Only Wilson maintained his top spot. So Jeev for a 2nd week in a row remains in contention. Go Jeev! Win the tournament. If Jyoti can make a top 10, that may be good for him as he hasn't done much recently.

Top 3 players and Indians position:

1 WILSON, Oliver 2 42 18 -13 66 66 65 197
2 LIN, Wen-tang 92 18 -12 65 69 64 198
3 LANGER, Bernhard 271 18 -11 69 67 63 199
T4 SINGH, Jeev Milkha 25 46 18 -10 71 63 66 200
T25 RANDHAWA, Jyoti 144 18 -5 71 68 66 205
T42 GHEI, Gaurav 447 18 -3 71 69 67 207

Another excellent round by Jeev.
But he looked very tired towards the end of his round and managed to PAR the last 3 holes while his playing partners all made birdies.
He has put himself in the 2nd last group and has a great chance to go all the way.
Jyoti finding form is good news too just before the world cup next week.
Good luck Jeev...can we have another win in 2008 !!!

Jeev's tiredness became very apparant today as he played himself out of contention with 3 bogeys in a row from 3rd to 5th. He is currently playing 6th hole and he is now -7 for the tournament and exactly 7 strokes behind the leader. While Jyoti with 3 birdies and a bogey has caught up with Jeev at T17. It is nice to see Jyoti playing much better in this tournament and hopefully he'll carry this form in world cup.

Gaurav Ghei has also made 3 birdies but two bogeys ensured that he dosen't improve much from Yesterday.
