My feelings exactly, Jay, especially about the hockey. I couldn't watch the game (as the Singapore channels didn't show it) but I was switching between NDTV and Zee News to see who would carry news about the match, and the former flashed it first and then showed highlights of the match -- both goals and some of the "penalties", which are now these wonderful duels between goalie and striker -- where dribbling skills are finally given full play. I felt such a glow of joy all evening after watching that. The next goal has to be to take us into the magic circle of the top 4 in world hockey by 2016 -- forty long years after we fell out of that circle.

With regard to other sports, Saina Nehwal is the slight worry -- having failed to replicate her Olympic bronze here, and playing a notch below that level since the London Olympics.

not an Olympic sport.

Saina is not a worry; she has never been able to beat the top Chinese. Only way for her to win a medal is to somehow avoid them until the medal rounds.

Given that the overall # of medal events has reduced by about 15% (and almost everyone's tallies have gone down as a result including China) and the influx of African imports (impacting Japan, China and us in that order), there is a very strong argument to be made that we haven't regressed at all. We were 7th by total # of medals in Guangzhou, we are 5th here. I would put that as an improvement.

I did see the total number improvement, but was looking at golds basically, for an indication towards improvement at the next Olympics. But I did forget that the total number of medals is less. So you are right that we perhaps have not regressed at all. Just that we may not be showing much improvement at the top end (gold) level. I would rather have that show by the Olympics time than now, though.

Push her to the back court and then play the drop shot. Beating Saina is not so difficult for the Chinese. She has her own limitations. She cant dictate terms of the game.

13-21 at half time...our domination in Kabbadi is on the verge of collapse....we can never beat them in wrestling but once these guys pick up any contact sport they become a serious force pretty quickly...

I guess the guys in the need will be able to win it however am not so sure on the women's side...

If you can feed your own people and you have oil & gas then sanctions are useless. Iran is self sufficient, successful and a happy nation.

Badminton team event is not Olympic event. So we should not consider it.
