Karman and Natasha are playing the qualies of the $25K ITF tournament in Hua Hin. They'll be joined by Pranjala next week. Sameer, maybe we could start a thread for this?

Sure, we should. There are 3 10K futures too after that there where Karman, Natasha, Pranjala would mostly continue.

Comfortable win for Karman in first round.

At $10K ITF Women, Hong Kong

[R1] Karman Kaur THANDI (IND,568) d. (WC) Ho Ching WU (HKG,1249) 63 63

She plays another wild card in second round.

[R2] Karman Kaur THANDI (IND,568) vs. (WC) Kwan Yau NG (HKG,1033)

Kwan upset third seeded Chinese in first round. So, it won't be as easy a match as it looks.

Good to see the comfortable win against the giant-killer. I hope Karman can win her next 3 matches this week!

Karman plays her singles QF in Hong Kong tomorrow against Yuki Kristina Chiang (USA, 648), a 21 year old with a career high ranking of 532 (versus 18-year-old Karman's career high of 540, and current ranking of 568). Although they look evenly matched, Karman should win.

Yuki Chiang has an extensive experience in the USTA pro circuit. Not an easy match for KKT to win.Good luck!

What are the special exempt rules for these tournaments? If Karman reaches the final this week, she cannot participate in the qualies of the $25K event next week? Or will she get a SE spot?

Yes, nice run here so far.

Putting it our usual format -

At $10K ITF Women, Hong Kong

[QF] Karman Kaur THANDI (IND,568) d. Yuki Kristina CHIANG (USA,648) 62 64

Next,

[SF] Karman Kaur THANDI (IND,568) vs. (Q) Nudnida LUANGNAM (THA,683)

29 year old Luangman is a tour veteran and I remember having watched her play in Mumbai a long time back ( must be 10 year or so and it was against one of the Bhambri sisters, I think. ). Amazing that she is still around. In fact she had hit top 200 about 3+ years back but now seems to be on a downswing. Hope Karaman takes care of her.

As per rules, special exempt are only for same level tournaments. So, is she reached the final here, she will probably miss out on next week's 25K event (unless Hong Kong tennis authorities reward her with a wild card).

Superb win against a player who has a similar career-high ranking but far more experienced (given that she is American, and four years older). Terrific run this week for Karman. Another, far more experienced challenger in the SF.

Given she has gone deep this week, generally, it may not be a bad idea to rest next week. I say generally because people's bodies are weird. There are exceptions who get out-of-wack and get injured if they don't get regular work. But, most players play with niggles and those get worse after a full week. So, a bit of rest is okay especially at this time of the year.

Karman lost the first set against the experienced Nudnida Luangnam (29 years old with a career-high of 195 three and a half years ago) 3-6, but broke her in the first game of the second set, and is now up 2-0 in the second set.

Update: Absolute downhill slide from there. Karman was broken back after several deuces at 2-1 (and a couple of missed game points), and is now down 2-5 in the second set.
