This is a nice story on Prarthana's rise from a girl in small town in Maharashtra to represent India at Rio -

She is playing another tournament ($25K) in France this week, with a Turkish partner. They are seeded second.

Prarthana is still shown as ranked 210. She won a tournament in Sharm el-Sheikh last year in the same week (actually 2 titles and one runner-up finish in 3 successive weeks in June last year), so perhaps her points didn't move up enough to push her into the top-200 despite last week's title.

No. That is because 25K points are updated a week layer I'm WTA rankings. She will be in top 200 next Monday.

As expected, Prarthna is now ranked inside top 200 at 190 in this week's WTA doubles rankings.

Last week she got knocked in the QF of a $25K challenger in France. I guess she may be playing another 25K challenger in France this week. (draws are not out yet.)

PGT is in Europe playing a string of Challenger tourneys. She lost in R1 STB last week at the $100K Biarritz CH, France. This week she is the top seed at the $50K+H Saint-Malo CH (FRA). I like the way she selects her tournaments that awards a lot of ranking points and prize money for winners.

At the $50K+H Saint-Malo CH,FRA (CLAY)

[R1] [1] Prarthana G THOMBARE / Maryna ZANEVSKA (IND/UKR) BYE

Maryna is a good player at this level. Hoping for a promising showing from this team. :goodluck:

The money at lower level WTA tour events in doubles appears really paltry. Ankita earned $1285 for winning one round of singles qualies which is more than what Prarthana will get if she wins a main draw round here.

At a similar level ATP event at Chengdu, Jeevan has got a similar chance to play a main tour event. A first round loss for Jeevan there will earn him $2170 which is almost 4 times the amount Prarthana gets if she loses in first round.

It is hard to pay money for these matches when there is zero interest from the paying public and sponsors.
