Must have been very upset with yesterdays performance. Vented out all his anger on the poor qualifier

I guess a tough match first ups acts well to make his sharper for subsequent rounds.

Next,

At $25K Hungary F8 Futures (Clay)

[QF] (4) Sumit Nagal (IND,372) vs. Pavel NEJEDLY (CZE,669)

Nejedly seems to have run into some form in last couple of months reaching 2 futures finals and upsetting the 7th seed in first round here and last week's runner up Nagy in the second round. Now, he meets last week's champion in the QF. :D

Sumit is very strong. He is seen squatting 150 kgs here. Its very difficult to build that kind of strength at his age. Tennis and all the endurance work actually interferes with building strength, which makes this all the more impressive. Good going!

Yes, Sumit does seem pretty fit. Probably the fittest Indian tennis player after Somdev. Great to see his consistency as well in continuing to do well after a title in his previous tournament.

so surprised to see sumit's age group players doing well in pro circuit this should be an extra motivation for him to keep on climbing in the rankings. This generation too good than yuki's lost generation

Benchmark keeps going up, the #20 player in the u20 group is now the South Korean Soon Woo Kwon who is ranked #298. This means there are 20 teenagers in the top 300 in the world which probably hasn't happened in recent years. (Sumit is currently at #24 amongst teenagers).

In fact, there are 4th South Korean youngsters who are ahead of Sumit in the rankings incluidng Hyeon Chung and Duck hee (#157); of course Sumit hasn't won as many "easy" points as Duck-hee has. Next few weeks will be his opportunity to do so.

edit: just checked and Sumit has withdrawn from the Nigeria 25K+H future series so no easy points for him. While understandable in some sense, it does make the path to AO qualies 2017 extremely hard.

Damn, his withdrawal from Nigeria futures is a bummer. The only negative I thought of playing there was he would have been playing too many consecutive weeks. Since davis cup, he has now played 3 weeks of futures. 2 weeks in Nigeria and than Pune challenger would have meant 6 straight weeks. ( plus one match in davis cup just before). I was about to suggest that in case he is successful in first week of Nigeria futures, he should withdraw from second week and take at least a week's break. But, I guess going there for just 1 week may not be feasible.

Yes, but that makes his AO qualifying chances very difficult.

Among 1.25 billion people only Sumit Nagal has solid ground strokes. It means he can play tennis. There's no need to rush. Let time take its course.

And he lost in straights sets. :-(

At $25K Hungary F8 Futures (Clay)

[QF] (4) Sumit Nagal (IND,372) l. Pavel NEJEDLY (CZE,669) 36 46

His serve was broken 4 times in the match while he could break his opponent's serve only twice in the match to lose the match which lasted exactly 2 hours.
