The match has started. In the first set, RamK broke twice but was broken back both the time. He is making too many unforced errors at the moment and needs to tighten up. He is serving at 3-4 in the first set.

RamK broken again after being 40-15 up. :-( Couple of bad errors again. Mcgee serving for the set at 5-3.

RamK missed a couple of break points to break back and loses the first set 3-6.

In the second set, after missing a string of breakpoints in 2 service games, RamK finally broke for 3-1 and then held at 15 for 4-1.

He missed a couple more breakpoints to go double break up. RamK is 1 out of 7 on breakpoints in this set. Needs to serve strong now at 4-2.

But, he gets broken at 30 and it is back on serve. :-( He has allowed McGee to get back in this set with missed opportunities.

Ok, RamK gets the break back for 5-3. Now hold.

Phew, he saved 3 breakpoints to hold and take the second set 6-3. :D

RamK gets an early break and holds to lead 2-0 in the third set.

And het gets the second break to lead 3-0. :-)

Up 5-1 now in the third set.

And while serving for the match was 15-40 down but won the next 4 points to win the set and the match.

RamK get to play the lone seed remaining in the top half of the draw, 4th seed Guido Andreozzi. A win would have him playing an unseeded player in the SF.

With this R2 win Ram is 245 in the live rankings and on Monday when the official rankings will be out he will stay at 245 or even move higher depending on how he perfoms in the remaining rounds of this Challenger.

Also next week the entry list for French Open qualies will open and at 245 or higher ,Ram has more or less cemented his place in the qualies and finally get a chance to play a GS quali for this year after an agonising and frustration wait at this year AO which he missed only by a spot.

Not yet sure, Rajeev. The cut off for last year's French open qualies was 242 last year. It was even higher in 2015. So, as of now it is touch and go for RamK. He needs to win today's match and then he will surely be in.

RamK got his break back! They are even now, with RamK serving 3-4.

Andreozzi served 2 double faults there to help RamK but it was good passing shot by RamK on breakpoint. Now he must hold.

He saved 2 break point and held for 4-4.

Andreozzi held at love for 5-4. Another tough service game coming up for RamK.

Damn, RamK gets broken after deuce to lose the first set 4-6. I think he was unnecessarily rushing to the net too often. Got passed 3 times in that last service game .

I am not watching the match, but based on Sameer's commentary, looks like it just took one loose game to undo all that hard work in getting the first break back. Why would one come to the net three times in a crucial game? That too on a clay court! :damn: :damn: :damn:

And he missed 2 breakpoints at 15-40 on Andreozzie serve in the third game of the second set. He is now serving at 1-2 in the second set.

And he gets broken for 1-3 now. Again tried to serve an volley on second serve on the break point and got passed. :-(

RamK took a medical time out at 1-4 down. I think for blisters on foot or something.

But, after he came back he held at love and broke back to make it 3-4.

Andreozzi took a medical time out at 4-4. It looks both are trying to unnerve each other.

RamK kept his composure to hold for 5-5.

And now RamK breaks for 6-5. He has a chance to serve for the set.

He holds at 30 to take the second set 7-5. :D Good comeback from 1-4 down.

Oh, Andreozzi can barely walk and now retires.

At $75K Tallahassee Challenger 2017, Florida, USA (green clay)

[QF] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,264) d. (4) Guido Andreozzi (ARG, 125) 46 75 11 retd.

Must say Andreozzi had some trouble moving in the last few games but RamK did keep fighting and to his credit did not fold up after being 1-4 down in the second set.

wow...that was a huuuuuuuge surprise. I left for an early lunch with colleagues when RamK was down 1-4. I vaguely remember sneaking a peek into my phone for an update and saw a score of 4-5 with the Argentine serving for the set (not sure if this really happened, or I was hallucinating, though). I never bothered to check back thinking RamK lost it already, and now an hour later this surprise! What a day! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
