Fantastic win......

This will get MB back into Top-300...
If they win one more and reach the final, he'll get into Top-250...
Winning the title will get him into Top-200... :goodluck:

But he needs to do lot more than that to get into Top-50 (needs 1000 more points even if he wins this title) and stake a claim for the Olympic Berth......

I hope Leander notes this. Maybe we might have two teams, one of these guys should be ready to face the music (Leander) Maybe Yuki might get a chance or something :tomato:

Mahesh's dbles final vs the Zverev bros is already due. But Alexander is on the brink of losing a lengthy SF. Hope he is dead tired after that and morally down when he comes back. :D

Disappointing loss for Hesh :( after the comfortable win in the 1st set..May be he needs to get some match practice for full fitness...Good to see he is trying to get back in the frame.. All the best..

Yes with an objective to remain match fit and competitive for 2016 Mahesh has entered the St Bueric challenger partnering Johnathan Marray where they are the 3 seeds.
Mahesh like the AO where he used his PR slot has quite a few PR slots remaining and these slots can be used for the rest of GS and even the Olympics.I am not exactly clear on this and stand to be corrected and maybe some of you can check on the PR usage for the Olympics and if so it will have far reaching interesting ramifications for the composition and build up for the Olympics team.

I really do not understand where Mahesh's protected ranking is coming from. Mahesh played till Wimbledon 2015 and then was absent for 6 months till Chennai open. Usually his protected ranking would be his average ranking during first 3 months of injury period i.e July to September 2015. That would be somewhere in the 600's.

Don't see anywhere in the Olympic qualification criteria where PR can be used for entry....

I am sure protected ranking can be used for Olympics if that is a tournament which gives ATP points like other tournaments. But, as I said above I am not sure how Mahesh is eligible for protected ranking good enough to enter these tournaments.

Some more insights on Mahesh's PR status and the interesting part in the article states that technically he is ineligible for Olympics as he hasn't played Davis Cup for the past 5 years, however this caveat can be overruled if the AITA intervenes on his behalf.

The technicality of the requirement is not to play a davis cup match, but to make themselves available for a Davis Cup tie... Were there any reports over the past 5 years that Mahesh made himself unavailable for a Davis Cup tie citing reasons other than an injury? If not, he is technically eligible, unless AITA says otherwise... For all intents and purposes, AITA's word is final, when it comes to Olympics..., Unfortunately, that's how the Olympic rules are...

Still, that does not answer confusion regarding how Mahesh has got a protected ranking inside top 100 (apparently). :-~
