:D
Leander rules out retirement, says his comments were misread
"I will keep playing hard and keep playing strong. I think there was a bit of misunderstanding the other day when Somdev pronounced retirement. Someone asked me a question and I said, it could be today, tomorrow or six months or somewhere down the track and all of a sudden it became like if Leander is retiring,"

"I want to motivate this guy to win a Grand Slam, that's what I want to do."

"For me, it's about going back to the drawing board. It's one thing to put a team together but my forte is to get this team to win. We believe in each other, results will come."

"When you keep working hard, luck favours the hard- working. Luck favours the brave. It's not rocket science to win. You put in the hard work, it will come. And I have good belief in this man, I am going to stick with him."

^wow, this is a big win. Albeit Mirnyi is on decline, but clearly they were favorites to win against Paes/SA.

I hope they have a good run here.

"Mirnyi on decline"? This pair (Mirnyi/Huey) qualified for the year-end doubles championship last year. They were therefore the top seeds in Auckland. This is a good win. Period.

Right. This is indeed the Sports India Community. We support Indian tennis. It is in the name. While we tolerate fans of other countries' players, you will not find much support for them here. Good luck to Paes/Sa.

Dinesh (bujilover) is probably too young to understand what Leander has done for Indian tennis -- and sport -- over the course of his storied career. When he won the singles bronze at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, it was India's first individual Olympic medal in 40 years -- and inspired countless other Indian sportspersons to aspire to Olympic glory too. That he was the last person into the singles draw, and beat a host of top players (including number 5 and third seed Thomas Enqvist) on the way, only bolstered the specialness of his achievement. When he beat the world's #16 Andre Boetsch on the red dirt of Frejus to win an epic Davis Cup tie for India, his legend grew -- and he added the scalps of Goran Ivanisevic and Wayne Ferreira on grass to his Davis Cup victory list. Youngsters can belittle those achievements, and his 18 Slam doubles titles (plus two Slam junior singles titles), but they are part of Indian tennis history, and Leander has a special place in the vast majority of Indian sports fans' hearts.

Why is it so difficult to understand that both Lee and Bops started with new partners? There may be few initial hiccups. For Lee/Sa in chennai and Bops in Australia. Give both the pairs some time settle down, we will know for sure who is doing better

Now, that is a reasonable statement. When PaeSa lost in Chennai, too many in the forum used the opportunity to jump on Paes, and use it as an opportunity to beat up on him. That they are a completely new pairing was quickly forgotten.
