$2.4M Dubai Duty Free Open Feb. 2017

Postby sameerph » Sat Feb 25, 2017 6:25 pm

Prajnesh got a wild card in qualies here but lost in Q1 against a much higher ranked player.

[Q1] (WC) Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,335) l. (6) Marius Copil (ROU,126) 26 26

Jeevan won his first round qualifying with Seppi against top seeded pair.

[Q1] Jeevan Neduncheziyan (IND) / Andreas Seppi (ITA) d. (1) Wesely Koolhof (NED) / Matwe Middlekoop (NED) 61 46 12-10

Leander and Rohan are also playing here with their respective partners Guillerme Garcia Lopez and Marcin Matkowski.

Exciting to see Jeevan finding different doubles partners at the higher level ATP tournaments. Now to get one more win :goodluck:

Are there any ranking points for doubles qualifying rounds?

Agree about Jeevan. Good to see more of this generation of Indian players taking up doubles given they are never going to make it as consistent CH level singles player.

Yes, 10 points for Q1 win. 20 points if he qualifies.

I wonder why they did not give singles qualies wild card to Yuki. He would have been in better position than Prajnesh to utilise it.

Presumably Yuki didn't ask for one, as he wants to rest before the key Challenger run starting 8 days from now.

That's a decent win for Rohan. He needs to find someone to team-up with him for a longer haul. These scratch partnerships do not warranty steady success.

Nice win for LP/GGL! Next up for them is another pair bringing together a doubles veteran with a European singles player, Nestor/Roger-Vesselin. The winner plays Bopanna/Matkowski in the SF.

Very nice win over a tough pair in the QF. We are assured of an Indian in the doubles final in Dubai. May the better pair win!
