I was following the scores on and off for most part of the first set. DiPu got an early break to go up 3-1, but conceded to make it even at 4-4. They broke again immediately to go 5-4 and were serving for the set. Got broken right away. If I remember correctly, they were serving to force a tie-break (5-6) and were up 30-0. Up until that time most of the games were pretty close. I was hoping they cause an upset here but it was not to be.

[QF] Yen-Hsun Lu (TPE)/ Leander Paes (IND) d Mike Bryan/Bob Bryan (USA) 7-6(4), 2-6, 10-7

LP/Lu get the Bryan twins who are seemingly on the decline as well.

I think that's the biggest scalp so far this year for Lee.

Up next are the 3rd seeds - "The Beast" Mirnyi, and Treat Huey.

[SF] Leander Paes/Yen-Hsun Lu vs 3-Treat Huey/Max Mirnyi

Well, well, they may be on the decline, but they still made the final of this year's Australian Open, and they still lose very seldom and to very few players. Brilliant scalp for Leander. The great man still has that something special!! :notworthy:

Oh this is against the run of play , and a pleasant surprise . It all goes to prove that you need a good singles players to complement your game , and Lu is one accomplished singles player.

It could be actually the biggest win in actually last 15-18 months.

LP has lost a lot of games in the last 2 years. I think this has to be his biggest win in a long time now.

Rajiv, that's a lame attempt at running down the big win. Yen-Hsun Lu has none of the weapons that a singles player brings to doubles -- neither a big serve nor a great volley. His back court skills perhaps complement LP's net dominance. But Lu had won just two doubles matches this year and is ranked in the 400s in doubles. To have beaten the world's #2 pair with a scratch partner is a very big deal.

Leander faces Mirnyi/Huey for the third time in 2017. He and Sa beat them at Auckland, but lost a narrow 3-setter to them at the Australian Open. Let's see what he and Lu can do today!

PKB vigorously defending LP on a perceived insult never gets old.

:-( Poor Rajiv was possibly giving LP a complement and saying that Lu is the type of player LP needs (maybe!).

Nah what I was trying to say it is very imperative for a doubles team to be a good singles player which Leander was and Lu is.
