Many more foreign players in the draw this week, including one seed. The qualifier Alexis Canter (of Britain) is 19 (with a career high junior ranking of 50 last March), and has played junior tournaments in India in each of the last two years.

Canter did play last week too and lost in first round in 3 sets against Haadin Bava. Most of the other foreign players too played in last 2 weeks. The only addition is 4th seed German Sami Reinwein who is at a career high ranking of 550 and has a win over RamK a few months back. He can be a threat to Indians this and subsequent weeks.

Singles semi final results -

Sami REINWEIN (GER) [4] 6-2 7-5 Shane VINSANT (USA)
Sasi Kumar MUKUND (IND) [3] 6-3 4-6 6-1 Vishnu VARDHAN (IND) [2]

So, Sasi finally prevailed over Vishnu after 7 losses. He is into his third futures final and he has won titles on both the previous occasions. Hope he repeats that tomorrow although the German looks in very good form going by the scores.

Good to see Sasi make the final and hopefully he'll make it 3 for 3 in the finals!

Sasi was a very impressive year end ATP 550+ as a 18 year old but stagnated somewhat last year and finished year end 530+ as a 19 year old. Hopefully, he will break into the top 500 now and have a break out year this year as a 20 year old.

Sasi is guaranteed to break into the top-500 with his performance this week (he is currently at a career-high 510). That he finally beat Vishnu on the 8th attempt is a very good sign of progress.
Sasi stopped playing junior tennis when he was 15 and switched early to the pro ranks. The last two years have been frustratingly inconsistent, but this will hopefully be his breakout year -- with at least a run to the top 350, so he can start nibbling at Challengers.
