Our girls team lost to Japan in the SF easily and then lost a close match in third place playoff against New Zeland to finish fourth.

[SF] (2) Japan d. (5) India 3-0

Himari SATO d. Prinkle SINGH 64 62
Naho SATO d. Mahak JAIN 61 61
Himari SATO / Moyuka UCHIJIMA d. Shivani AMINENI / Mahak JAIN 61 61

(4) New Zeland d. (5) India 2-1

Prinkle SINGH d. Holly STEWART 36 63 61
Mahak JAIN l. Valentina IVANOV 64 67(4) 57
Shivani AMINENI / Mahak JAIN l. Valentina IVANOV / Holly STEWART 46 26

It seems Mahek missed 3 matchpoints in her match in third place playoff.

These girls needs to improve a lot to be effective at world group level.

Our girls team started today with a loss against Czech Republic.

At ITF World Junior Tennis Finals, Prostejov, Czech Republic

Group B

India l. Czech Republic 1-2

Shivani AMINENI d. Anna SISKOVA 64 64
Mahak JAIN l. Ivana SEBESTOVA 46 57
Shivani AMINENI / Mahak JAIN l. Vanesa NIKOLOVOVA / Anna SISKOVA 26 36

Good win by Shivani to start with but they could follow up that in next 2 matches.

Italy and Egypt are other 2 teams in our group. I guess Italy will be as difficult. Hope we can at least beat Egypt which will enable us to fight for 9-12 spots.

Hopefully we should be able to beat Egypt pretty easily as they have only won a total of 13 games in 12 sets against Czech Rep. and Italy whereas we have been competitive in most of the matches.

Nice and impressive win for our girls against China.

At ITF World Junior Tennis Finals, Prostejov, Czech Republic

9th-12th place playoff

India d. China 2-1

Shivani AMINENI d. Jiagi WANG 64 61
Mahak JAIN d. Xiyu WANG 63 64
Shivani AMINENI / Mahak JAIN l. Jia Yu CHU / Xiyu WANG 16 26

If you take a look at the previous page of this thread, we lost to the same Chinese girls team in the Asia Oceania qualifying event in April. So, this is a sweet revenge on European clay.

Up against Canada in the final match tomorrow for 9-10 place playoff.

Out girls team lost a close one against Canada in 9-10 playoff .

At ITF World Junior Tennis Finals, Prostejov, Czech Republic

9th-10th place playoff

India l. Canada 1-2

Shivani AMINENI l. Ariana ARSENEAULT 26 63 36
Mahak JAIN d. Leylah FERNANDEZ 63 62
Mahak JAIN / Prinkle SINGH l. Ariana ARSENEAULT /Viktoriya TABUNSHCHYK 67(5) 67(4)

Thus, our girls team finish in 10th position out of 16 nations which is a decent showing.

This is the fourth consecutive year that our girls under 14 team has reached the last 16 and have finished 10th, 5th, 12th and 10th respectively. That shows we are getting some good talent among young girls and hopefully some of these will go on to become successful pros in womens tennis.

Yes, let's hope they sustain their drive. We've seen way too many talented juniors just change their priorities a few years later...

It seems we had an upper hand over Korea in sports today. 2 wins in womens badminton and now 1 win in junior tennis team.

Junior Davis cup Asia Oceania Final-Qualifying -New Delhi

[QF] (5) India d. (2) Korea 2-1

[S2] SIDDHANT BANTHIA d. JINSEOK YU 63 64

[S1] ADIL KALYANPUR l. YEONGSEOK JEONG 26 26

[D] ADIL KALYANPUR / MEGH PATEL d. SEONYONG HAN / YEONGSEOK JEONG 36 63 14-12

Such a close win in the super tie break. But, win is a win and after a long time I am seeing a win in juniors over Koreans. This was despite our no. 1 Adil Kalyanpur having a off day in singles is commendable.

So, we are thru to SF. Normally, that would be enough to qualify for world group of 16. But, it seems last year Hongkong finished last in world group and therefore, Asia-Oceania lost 1 spot and only 3 will qualify from this group this year.

We need to win 1 more match to qualify. We play China tomorrow in the SF.
