This is a good article of Mohd. Amir Khan who contributed to one of the goals for us against Great Britain-

Reverse flick: Amir Khan does star turn

Looking forward to SF today against Belgium.

I stayed away and we still lost! :damn:

Sort of expected this defeat. Suppose the margin of defeat is less than it could have been. I don't think we have a chance of a medal against the Dutch, so our wait for a major medal continues!!

These white umpires are a big joke for the game

We will never win a meaningful tournament until the umpiring becomes fair. No chance of that happening. In any match, we get crazy decisions and cards. The opposition can barge us of the ball and there is not even a foul, let alone a punishment.

I posted a comment at the end of the Australia test series that we would lose to them if 'white' umpires were officiating. It is a disgrace and rather than playing internal politcs, Batra and his gang should be putting pressure on the FIH to get fair umpiring.

Instead of blaming umpiring I will blame our team for lackluster play ... We failed to get a single penalty corner in this match, we failed to break Belgium defensive strategy ... I would say most of the match our forward line were non-existent ... Sreejesh made one misjudgment (ofcouse poor marking by our defenders) which resulted in early soft goal ... Otherwise Sreejesh again was dependable in-front of the goal ... Though we lose this match with a single goal still we were never in the control.

That's true , we were like bunch of school kids with no meaning to our game..just wild movement without any purpose what so ever..half of the team is burden which the other half has to carry so we can't expect to win..

That umpiring comment was for not giving us a PC in the last few minutes, even the referaal did not help as it does not matter how many biased eyes see the situation it doesn't change.. No wonder the commentator was surprised as well..

In the end we are still way behind the top 5 hockey nations so lucky to be finishing most likely 4th here..

4th will be better than I expected and that has happened because of just one win! Let's not kid ourselves that we are contenders at the Olympics. We haven't got good enough players in every position. The format has helped us here. That won't happen in Rio.We just can't string 2 or 3 great performances together, so a semi final seems miles away. The other worry is that our group will have Holland, Germany and Belgium. We will need 2 results out of those 3 games. I suspect we will switch world ranking positions with Belgium by Rio. What we needed was a 2nd place finish here and hopefully move into WR5 and get grouped with Australia, GB, NZ and Spain. We have more chances of getting 2-3 results against this lot. The other piece of luck was meeting a weakened GB team in the QF.

There are some improvements in our play, but we can't expect too much when half a dozen players are so weak! Maybe the selectors will finally make some good choices for the next squad.

India's performance against Belgium was a mixed one with the defense having a great game while our forwards were guilty of missing many chances. The lack of confidence among the forwards was clearly visible as many times our forward passed the ball instead of taking a direct shot on goal. Our mid-field was also mediocre with our team unable to make 2-3 passes at one go. Sardara and co. became very predictable with all the attacks happening from the left and none through centre. Only Sunil was creating trouble with his runs, other than him Akashdeep and Ramandeep were below par.

To be fair, India was unlucky with many decisions going against them in the last quarter. India were denied two certain penalty corners which could have made the difference. Overall, we have made improvement and on a given day we can surely beat Belgium and Great Britain. However, India really needs to work on the trapping as many of our moves broke down because of bad trapping by our players.

Over the next few months, India needs to play teams ranked 4-8 more and try and dish out consistent performance against them. However, on immediate basis we need to play teams like Ireland, Canada etc. to help boost the confidence of our strikers.

Down 2-0 already , just poor display of hockey...forwards can't trap the balls and defense goes to sleep every now and then...

The 4th goal which NED scored was thanks to the joker referee who gave a wrong PC..

We have won the bronze. Incredible result. Really, really happy that we have finally won a medal at a world level event after so many years.
Well done to Oltmans and all the team. Sreejesh was our hero in the shoot out.

As ever, we contrived to lose a 2 goal lead with 2 mins remaining. Shocking cr*p like this has to be cut out if we want to get good results consistently.
