Re: Sudirman Cup 2017

Re: Roland Garros 2017

PKB is tilting against windmills here. No one is talking about match practice but the reality that Polansky is in horrible form (beating a 700+ ranked player does not change it) and Yuki should have beaten him. Polansky unsurprisingly lost in his QR2 match as well. Yuki was correctly considered the ...

Re: Roland Garros 2017

The ATP site hadn't updated with the Lyon qualifiers but beating a 700+ ranked player clearly puts Polansky's recent form in a completely different light.

Re: ATP World Tour Masters/ WTA Clay court season 2017

Sania's age is irrelevant from a doubles perspective. 6 of the current top 10 are above 30.

Agree with prasen on general theme, Sania may yet find another partner who can combine well with and become a GS winner with.

Re: Sudirman Cup 2017

Ashwini is a potential star! And having a world class doubles coach is starting to pay off. One area where the doubles teams can significantly improve is holding on to their leads, as India let go of an advantage in the deciding game against Denmark in both the women's and mixed doubles on Monday. T...

Re: Sudirman Cup 2017

Agree w/sameer here.

Our MS are all inconsistent so not a bad idea to use matchups to decide whom to start.

If Ashwini can repeat this tomorrow against Indonesia, we will win at least one of WD or XD and it will come down to Srikanth's match on who wins the tie.

Re: Roland Garros 2017

Very poor performance from Yuki against the Canadian who was on a 7 match losing streak coming into this (0-5 on clay).

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

In a best of 5, Wawrinka is the only other player outside of Djokovic who can beat Nadal at RG IMO. Too soon for Thiem and Zverev. Of course, it is Nadal and his knees are broken so that can come into play.

Re: Vidit Santosh Gujrathi WR#47 Oct 2016

Vidit is again close to the magical 2700 mark with a live ELO rating of 2691.5 after a 3rd place at the Asian chess championships, which also guarantees a spot at the chess world cup. Others from that generation like Adhiban continue to flounder. Aravindh Chithambaram looks to be the next hope for h...

Re: Roland Garros 2017

This is as good a draw as Yuki can get for a GS qualifying. Fucsovics is probably the favourite in his section.

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

This has been a most bizarre series of matches on the clay of Roma. Thiem beats Nadal (who had won the 3 previous tournaments on clay) in straights. Djokovic beats Thiem 6-1, 6-0 in a ridiculous beatdown. Zverev beats Djokovic in straights and becomes the first young player to win a Masters in a dec...

Re: Champions Trophy, 2017

Umesh is one of Kohli's "achievements" as a test captain. I can see him playing. His record under Kohli in ODIs is decent.

*MS Dhoni 2011-2016 45 45 35.41@6.08
*V Kohli 2013-2017 8 8 23.73@5.83

That said, our batting is dismal and I go into this tournament with no expectations.

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

Nadal might have been tired but a very impressive win from Dominic Thiem (so-called prince of clay) to beat him in straights.

If he can follow this up with a win against Djokovic in the semis, he will be a very clear second favourite for RG.

Re: Anirban Lahiri - PB WR #33 (28-Mar-15), India #1

Anirban's dismal recent run continues with a 75-73 and another missed cut, and zero ranking points from 4 out of the last 5 tournaments.

Re: Asian Games 2014 - Incheon

SL were very aggressive in trying to host the 2018 CWG and just missed out on the voting to Australia.

SL has a much higher standard of living and HDI than rest of South Asia.
