Re: Yuki Bhambri

I t will be touch and go as technically 9 month period ends on June 25 a day before Wimbledon qualies star t. As of now Yuki has used up 5 of his 9 SE spots. He will use the 6th one next week at French open qualies. 3 more left. Just saw that he has entered Surbiton challenger starting June 5 using...

Re: ATP Tennis/Non-India Davis Cup

This may also be a career prolonging effort. I believe with the new racket technology and the slower courts, players have to hit more balls and hit harder for every point and this has the effect of increasing wear and tear and injury on the body. Perhaps, he feels that he'll have to hit way more bal...

Re: Yuki Bhambri

Yes, the language is a little ambiguous but I'm sure the ATP tour now has precedent on what it means. Based on plain meaning, it's more likely that the tournaments you "compete in" cover tournaments actually played in the 9 month window in which case Yuki's September 26, 2016 return date w...

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...

Yes, Sumit is a great story coming back from a serious back injury. He is definitely an Asian games prospect and did fine in the final losing 2-6 to the WR #17 Iranian (who will presumably move up now with his Asian title). However, the only other Asian in the Super Heavy top-20 is another Iranian w...

Re: Yuki Bhambri

I suspect PKB meant including the qualifiers at Roland Garros as there is some points and significant prize money in winning rounds at a GS qualifier... BTW, it appears that Yuki's 9 month period for using his PR ends on June 26 (if it is based on tournament date and not entry date of which I'm not ...

Re: Indian Wrestling Thread ...

Yes, great performance by the women as most of the silver medalists lost to Japanese who are among the best in their weight classes. Hopefully, these women are developed into medal prospects at Tokyo. Bajrang Punia's gold medal was also a great performance as he did beat a world class Iranian on his...

Re: Karshi / Samarkand Challengers May 2017

Yes, second set was at least competitive and with fewer errors, Yuki could have won that and got back into the match. Even in the last 2 games ( one where Yuki was broken and then Gerasimov held after deuce) , Yuki made a at least 3-4 marginal errors which could have made a difference in Yuki getti...

Re: Karshi / Samarkand Challengers May 2017

Yes, there were hardly any loose shots on his service games, apart from the two points he lost in the final game of the match (both shots that he hit out because of the tension of the moment, I think). The precision and power of his groundstrokes (generated from bending the knees and swivelling bac...

Re: Karshi / Samarkand Challengers May 2017

Nice win by Yuki. Going by uncertain pattern in this match, it does seem that Yuki is still not fully back to his best or perhaps still not 100%. I think at his best, he would despatched Setkic in an easier manner. Lets see how he fares against Stakhovskiy. If he can put a close fight we can say th...

Re: Karshi / Samarkand Challengers May 2017

Yes, we haven't upset any foreigner yet but hopefully the second round will give us that opportunity as both Indians face higher ranked opponents.

Re: Sumit Nagal thread

Yes, he doesn't appear to be fully fit but it may not be premature. That would depend on whether he is still hurting and is potentially making his injury worse by playing. Alternatively, if he is on his way to full fitness (but isn't there yet) then he may need to take play and take a few losses bef...

Wow, these are some the lowest ranked players you would expect at the challenger level. UZB must not be a country that anyone wants to go to. Good luck to the Indian players...
