Re: Indian Women Hockey

Lost all 5 tests. I expected as much, but there was no improvement at all, as 4 of the defeats were 3 goal margins or more. I decided not to watch the she's about half way through the second test. If 2-3 passes is the most you can manage and speed of passing is this slow and you commit this many unf...

Re: Hockey World League (Men's and Women's)

Yes Sameer, I'm ok with guys that improve like Chinglensana and Dharamvir and before them, Gurvinder Singh Chandi (although injury curtailed the latter's career). Akashdeep, Mandeep, Uthappa and Ramandeep have been in the squad for 3+ years. In my book if you can't trap on the open side of the stick...

Re: Domestic Indian Hockey

I have been moaning about the pathetic domestic hockey situation in India for decades. It is obvious that the most successful nations rely on a well organised national league. I don't know why we can't organise state leagues at least. The random knock out tournaments are not working, but why not gro...

Re: Indian Women Hockey

Lost only 3-2, which is a huge improvement on yesterday's dreadful result. NZ were again the better team, although not by the embarrassing margins of the previous 2 tests. We played better, possibly because NZ were experimenting. However, we are still guilty of crazy turnovers in our own 23m zone. N...

Re: Indian Women Hockey

Expected and more realistic result today. 8-2 win for NZ. We are really pathetic and it's painful to see such dumb play, so I didn't bother after a few minutes.

Really need to forget about women's hockey, if this is the best we have. :damn:

Re: Indian Women Hockey

Our women have started a 5 test series v NZ. It's being streamed live on the Vantage Black Sticks Facebook page. 1st quarter ends with NZ leading 1-0. I know it's just 15 mins so far, but our play is as bad as ever. No more than 3 passes are possible and silly errors all over the pitch means we can'...

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

Armaan maybe injured.

GB are leading Australia 2-0 after 24 mins of play. Didn't expect that.

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

We are 2-0 up at the end of Q3. Playing better than yesterday's game. Fewer silly errors, but forwards are utterly cr*p again. If NZ get one back, I can see us panicking. Akashdeep and Mandeep are incapable of anything sensible. Akashdeep got in to the D and rather than take a shot, he simply passed...

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

Yes, this is an experimental side, but the newcomers were actually OK. The disappointing thing was the form of the 'senior' players. All of them were poor or awful. Rupinder Pal had one of his horror games where he can't do even the simplest of things. Sardar was guilty of losing the ball 7-8 times ...

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

We have been awful today and are deservedly losing 1-0 with 9 mins to go. So many of our experienced guys have let the team down. All the forwards have been utterly c**p. Special mention for Akashdeep and Mandeep for messing up every single thing. I expect a 2-0 loss. Actually, Rupinder Pal has been...

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

0-0 at the end of Q1 India have been awful- unforced errors all over the pitch. No meaningful attacks at all and Malaysia have had 5 circle penetrations to none from us. Lucky to be level. Surely, we can't play as badly as this in the remainder of this match? 0-0 at half time. Better 2nd quarter, wi...

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

Amazing win by Japan. Really didn't expect that. Encouraging to see an Asian team overcome the mighty Aussies. Japan is easily the most improved team this year. They won the HWL tournament recently and have been competitive in all their matches so far. Well done to them.

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

GB have beaten NZ 3-2 so have a 12/9 goal difference. We are currently 10/8, so we need any win where we score 3 goals or more. Only other way to make the final would be a 2-0 win.

Re: Sultan Azlan Shah tournament

Apart from the 3-0 win over NZ, our results have been average. However, I'm not too despondent because we are playing some nice hockey and the statistics seem to back this up. Usually, Australia dominates the possession and circle entry stats against us, but we actually were better in both of these ...
