Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

Considering that spin is not expected to play a major role in England, Dhoni's edge in that area does not matter much. Personally I would select Karthik over the other 3, think he has the best chance to do well in England. Also he is coming on the back of a great domestic season.

Re: Test series in 2017

If Vijay is injured, they should get Parthiv. I have zero confidence in Mukund. Similarly Nair on a seaming pitch is a walking wicket. Given the fragile nature of our batting, it would have been prudent to prepare a featherbed and hope for a draw. Might be too late now!!

Re: Indian domestic season 2016/17

Saha and Parthiv have both consistently shown they are one of the best in the domestic scene at playing the seaming ball. Also other than Shahbaz Nadeem (in 1 inning), Sid Kaul starred in both innings for ROI. Not many positives for Gujarat in this match, they were likely tired from a long Ranji cam...

Re: India-England ODI Series, Jan 2017

On this pitch and ground, what Bhuvi did was truly commendable. I don't think any of the replacements could have done a better job than him. If Umesh was selected, infact even if he was just given the last over, we might very well have lost the match. Thats because Bhuvi is a smart bowler, while Ume...

Re: India-England ODI Series, Jan 2017

Why not rest Shami? He has been prone to injuries and we really need him for the Australian series. His value to the Test squad is much more than the ODI squad. For the ODIs Bumrah and someone among the options mentioned (Dinda, RPS, Bhuvi) should do the job

Re: India-England ODI Series, Jan 2017

For this series, I would like our Test bowlers to get a break, specially Shami/Umesh/Ashwin/Jadeja. There are lot of tough Tests coming up soon after. This opens up 2 spots for fast bowlers. Dinda has been highly impressive this season. He has the aggression and the pace and it is time he gets anoth...

Re: Test series 2016 (in WI; then hosting, BD, NZ, England)

Seems like Anderson is likely to be replaced in the last Test by Broad, which is bad news for us. Anderson was quite mediocre (as expected), whereas Broad was good (at times). I think England needs to think about retiring Anderson, or at the very least restrict him to swinging conditions, a la Bhuvi...

Great stuff Jaydeep for digging this up  How did you get this information?
Also did Saketh play only doubles in Hong Kong or singles too?

Re: European series tournaments Oct/Nov. 2016

Why is it an upset? She was higher ranked, and frankly it is high time to lay the Chinese bogey to rest. The rest of the world is not afraid of the Chinese any more, and neither should we.

Re: Indian domestic season 2016/17

Pervez Rasool plays for J&K in the weaker division C; hence his performances have to be taken with a pinch of salt. Ditto for Rishi Dhawan. Thats why our domestic structure is no intractable. There are so many teams, with such varying team strength that its really hard to judge who is really goo...

Re: Test series 2016 (in WI; then hosting, BD, NZ, England)

It is quite clear Kohli prefers the 2 fast bowlers, 2 spinners strategy at home, this gives him the opportunity to keep Rohit in the side. But I think we seriously need to consider adding a 5th bowler to the lineup; otherwise we could end up with Ashwin tiring out or picking an injury. Ashwin is una...

Re: Indian domestic season 2016/17

Sangwan took 5 and not 7 wickets. Still a commendable performance from him, he should be tried out in some Duleep trophy matches first. This Sakure guy could also be someone to watch out for. From the Lahli pitch no reasonable evaluation can be made of a medium pacer's actual worth, but good work ne...

Re: Sundry ODI/T20I series, June-Dec 2016

Shami of course picks up wickets in ODIs, but he is also expensive, so I consider his utility limited for the shorter versions. I would rather preserve him for Tests, and only play him in matches of any real importance, like World Cups and Champions Trophy. Mohit is someone I had overlooked, he is n...

Re: Sundry ODI/T20I series, June-Dec 2016

Bhuvi's injury has really spread our ODI bowling stocks too thin. Other than Bumrah, Dhawal and Hardik, I don't see any other bowler in the reserve who is good enough for this level. Unadkat is meh, Sran is injured, Rajpoot has been disappointing of late, Sandeep Sharma is likely a poor man's versio...

Re: Test series 2016 (in WI; then hosting, BD, NZ, England)

It does look like that no matter what combination we field, WI does not have the bowling nor the pitches to take 20 wickets. We could even play only 4 proper bats, maybe bring in Umesh/Thakur in place of Rohit. The only thing we need from our batsmen is they score at a fast pace, giving enough time ...
