Re: Roland Garros 2017

Hey, I am disappointed every time an Indian player loses. I am pained more when the loss is unexpected and pained less when it is expected. But, pained nonetheless.

Re: ATP World Tour Masters/ WTA Clay court season 2017

:-) I think fundamentally we agree on a lot of things (maybe except Indian politics). Wrt sports, we like to quibble at the margins. :-)

Re: ATP World Tour Masters/ WTA Clay court season 2017

As long as she is getting entries, she should keep playing. If her ranking goes down and she is not good enough, then automatically she will not play. Whether to retire or not is largely based on a person's mental motivation. In a team sport, retiring may make sense. Dhoni is blocking a youngster. S...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

This is a repudiation of the Dhoni doctrine. There was an international match where Gambhir was very angry with Dhoni because he wanted to take the match to the last over and win when Gambhir (and Sehwag?) had given a fantastic huge opening stand while scoring very fast. Dhoni lost that match for us...

Re: Champions Trophy, 2017

8 ODIs is a very small sample size. So, it is possibly a flash in the pan. His runs/over is still 5.83, quite high. The only reason to play him is because he seems to have turned a corner in the last year or two and become slightly less erratic and gets wickets a bit more. If the selectors see him b...

Re: Champions Trophy, 2017

That's right. I had forgotten about Bumrah. Bumrah will possibly replace Shami. Umesh "doing well". lol. He has been one of the worst ODI bowlers to ever play for India. He is lucky to be in the ODI side. He is 29 years old and his runs/over is over *6* in his career with an average of 33....

Re: Champions Trophy, 2017

Karthik got into the team because Manish Pandey is out with an injury. My first XI should be: Dhawan, Rohit, Kohli, Dhoni, Yuvraj, Kedar, Hardik, Bhuvi, Shami. Okay, that is 9. For the rest two, we have to figure out if we want a batsman or two spinners or two pacers or some combination of the same....

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

There is an alternative. Just have a reserve day. I am fully with you. Or if the forecast calls for rain, move the game earlier if the logistics can be handled. I looked at the Indian players with the lowest SRs with over 142 runs. Here is the list (in sorted order of low SR first): Mandeep, Dhoni, ...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

So, Gambhir will click in the final this year? :p Unfortunately, Uthappa has faded after a very good start. Yusuf seems to be past expiry date. The batting needs to click against Mumbai. Just as Rahane and Dhoni clicked after having a poor-ish season.

Re: Domestic Indian Hockey

In the U.S. each baseball team has minor league baseball. In the world over, football teams have junior or development teams. I hope the HIL teams or someone can see value to signing up youngsters and developing them. Then, maybe all the teams will do so. At one point, there were not enough astrotur...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

There is also no question that Dhoni gets the superstar treatment. A bit of it is deserved, but, we do go overboard. It is deliciously ironic that the two slowest players among the regulars/stars Rahane and Dhoni anchored Pune to a victory. When the pitch has something in it, you need the slower bat...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

Generally accept your point. I am a MT fan. But, I also like to argue. So, I'll play the devil's advocate. 1. If you count wide balls, then that undercuts your argument. Wide balls cannot be hit and thus the batsman's SR should not be penalized for that. 2. Dhoni scored at a SR of 153, whereas Manoj...
