Re: Indian Badminton Thread ...

sameer, I was thinking more on the lines of Siril Verma and Lakshya Sen on the boy's side and Aakarshi Kashyap and Gayatri on the girls' side. As well as Satwik who has shown a lot of promise in the junior ranks. All our men have been ranked in the top 50 (even top 30 for some of them) for years no...

Re: Indian Badminton Thread ...

Yes, more talent coming thru on mens side than womens side. We have 6 players in top 50 of which only Ajay Jayaram is above 25. Srikanth, Praneeth, Prannoy and Verma brothers are all below 25 and are quite talented. Among women we have only Saina and Sindhu in top 50 with Saina being on the older s...

Re: Indian Premier League (IPL)

Hardik should be considered for test cricket in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia. In these countries India will play only 1 spinner, Jadeja or Ashwin. So Hardik can bat at no. 6 and be the 4th seamer. With this India would have 5 bowlers and bad deep till no. 8.

Re: New ITF Tournament Restructuring 2017

Old wine in new bottle. If the transition tour still has prize money and players can use those points to get into higher level tournaments, why distinguish them? On a lighter note, the Asian Tennis Tour started by some of our officials is similar to what is being proposed here. Looks like they were ...

Re: Greatest Indian Women Athlete

In some of the earlier threads, far too much was being made about athleticism. At the highest level, mental strength (killer instinct) separates a champion from good performers. Saina has that. Among men, Leander and Kohli are 2 players who have it in abundance, in Sachin's case it was absent. I don...

Re: Test series in 2017

Kuldeep Yadav has a first class century. Even 15-20 runs from him could be invaluable.

http://www.ptusha.org/achievements Here is a list of PT Usha's achievements. The sensations that Dipa and Sindhu are today, Usha was in the mind-80s. She did far more that run that 1 race at Los Angeles. Since then India has not produced a track athlete of her caliber (male or female). The few succe...

Re: Fitness: the bane of Indian tennis

If we go back a little, we can add a few more to that list. Mahesh Bhupathi was one of the slowest movers on court and had injuries and surgeries as he went along, Vijay Amritraj had asthma and could never last 5 sets, moreover in the early 1980s he had a severe tennis elbow problem (mentioned in hi...

I am more surprised by Dipa receiving so many votes in spite of having just 2 international medals.

Re: Greatest Indian Women Athlete

Voted for Saina. By the time, Sindhu ends of career she may surpass Saina's achievements. But as of today, it is Saina all the way. And I guess she has 2 more years of good badminton left in her. Hope the votes for Dipa Karmakar are not because of the recency factor? Had this been 2010 or 2012 or 20...

Re: Greatest Indian Women Athlete

Just travel through China. Look at the number of public badminton courts and the number of people playing. You'll be amazed. Even I have played at 1 such sports centre. Tennis courts are not that easy to find though not totally absent. Actually, the same applies for table tennis in China. For the Ch...

Re: Greatest Indian Women Athlete

For defining the popularity of a sport, whether it is played in the US cannot be a criteria. While US has the largest population among Western countries, China is 5 times US population, India is 4 times and Indonesia is 85%. So a sport like badminton that is popular all across Far East and India acc...
